Bordeaux Superieur, Domaine De L’Ile Margaux Magnum 2015

An historic wine from an island in the middle of the Gironde Estuary opposite Chateau Margaux. Originally part of the Chateau, but left derelict since the Phylloxera epidemic in the early 1900’s. It was only replanted with cuttings from the remaining pre-Phylloxera plants on the island fifteen years ago. Today the organically managed vines, (the same as in all top Claret, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot), are becoming mature and the wine is becoming extremely good.
The 2016, which is our first shipment, is up there with the second wines of some classed growth Medocs, and shows great promise and improvement year by year. We are very excited to be the only UK importer of their extraordinary wine. The wine is elegant with typical Margaux finesse. Red and dark berry fruits, lovely balance, persistence and elegance rather than weight.

Domain de L'Ile Margaux, is from an island in the middle of the Gironde Estuary, right opposite on the left bank Chateau Margaux, the esteemed First Growth. Back in the nineteenth century, before the Phylloxera killed all the vines in Europe, the Ille was a part of the Chateau Margaux vineyard and blend. It was only replanted with cuttings from the remaining pre-phylloxera plants on the island fifteen years ago. Now the vines, (the same as in all top Claret, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot) are becoming mature and the wine is becoming extremely good.
